Quartz Floor Coatings in South Florida

Fine colored quartz aggregate broadcast into the coating and sealed, producing a dense, evenly textured surface with a tighter grain than flake.

A quartz floor uses small, color-coated quartz granules instead of paint-chip flake. The granules are broadcast into the wet coating until it will take no more, then sealed. The result is a thicker build with a fine, uniform texture, closer to a mineral surface than to the confetti pattern of a flake floor.

Quartz is common in commercial kitchens, locker rooms and service areas, where a textured, cleanable floor is wanted. In a home it suits garages, workshops and utility rooms where grip and a quieter pattern are priorities.

Scope

What a quartz system involves

  • Assessment of the slab and agreement on repairs
  • Mechanical preparation of the concrete
  • Base coat applied to the prepared slab
  • Quartz aggregate broadcast into the wet coating
  • Removal of loose aggregate after cure
  • A second broadcast where the system calls for a double-broadcast build
  • Grout and top coats that seal the aggregate and set the final texture
  • Guidance on returning the floor to use, based on the products installed

For this system, whether preparation and equipment are included in the per-square-foot rate is confirmed in your written estimate.

Preparation and installation

How the system is installed

  1. Assess

We check the slab and discuss how much texture you want, since that is set by how the aggregate is sealed.

  2. Prepare mechanically

The concrete is ground to a clean, open profile.

  3. Repair

Cracks, pits and spalls listed in your estimate are treated.

  4. Apply the base coat and broadcast

Quartz is broadcast into the wet base until the surface is uniformly dry-looking and will accept no more.

  5. Sweep and repeat if required

After cure, loose quartz is swept off and vacuumed. A double-broadcast build repeats the coat and broadcast for more thickness.

  6. Grout coat

A coat is worked into the aggregate to lock it in and begin filling the texture.

  7. Top coat and hand over

The top coat sets the final surface. A heavier top coat gives a smoother floor; a lighter one leaves more texture. We then give you guidance on returning the floor to use.

Scope boundaries

What is not included, and what we assess on site

These are the points most often left unsaid in an estimate. We would rather you read them here than discover them later.

Important exclusions

Not included unless listed in your estimate

  • Existing-coating removal, additional heavy grinding, moisture mitigation and leveling, which are added only when required
  • Significant crack and spall repair beyond what is listed
  • Cove base and vertical surfaces, unless listed
  • Stem-wall coating, unless listed
Requires assessment

Conditions we check before pricing

  • The texture level appropriate for how the floor will be used and cleaned
  • Moisture conditions
  • An existing coating and how it is bonded
  • Slab wear, pitting and surface loss
  • Drainage and standing water
  • Small projects below the review threshold for this system

Public rates

What it costs to start the math

Projects in this system under $3,250 are reviewed individually. That is a review threshold, not a surcharge.

Quartz Floor Coatings FAQ

Questions about this service

General questions

How is quartz different from flake?

Flake is thin, flat paint chips that create a multi-tone speckled pattern. Quartz is fine, rounded mineral granules that create a tight, even grain and a thicker build. Flake reads as a pattern; quartz reads as a texture.

Is a quartz floor rough?

It can be made more or less textured. The texture is set by how much top coat is applied over the aggregate. More texture gives more grip and takes more effort to mop; less texture is easier to clean. We agree the level with you before installation.

Is quartz harder to clean than a smooth floor?

A textured surface holds more dirt than a smooth one and is better cleaned with a brush or scrubber than a flat mop. If easy mopping is the priority, a smoother finish or a different system may suit you better.

Does the rate include grinding and equipment?

For quartz coatings, the preparation and equipment inclusions are confirmed in your written estimate. Only the Full-Flake Hybrid rate is a confirmed package that includes ordinary mechanical preparation and normal equipment.
